Sage, a company that makes accounting, financial, HR and payroll software for small and mid-sized businesses, has announced a set of updates to Sage Intacct, its cloud financial management product, that add automation and AI capabilities across receivables, accounts payable, purchasing and SaaS analytics. The updates also introduce a gateway that lets customers and partners connect the platform to external AI tools.
The changes target a recurring problem for finance teams, which often run on disconnected systems and manual processes that slow down execution and limit visibility into day-to-day operations. Research from Gartner found that 88% of CFOs rank finance staff productivity among their top priorities in 2026, reflecting pressure to automate workflows, shorten cycles and control costs.
Among the new capabilities, the AP Automation feature uses AI to perform three-way matching, linking invoices, purchase orders and receipts, comparing prices, quantities and totals, and flagging line-level discrepancies for review before payment. This reduces the manual reconciliation work that finance teams typically carry out before approving payments. The feature is generally available globally.
A second addition, Custom Approvals in Purchasing, lets teams define approval rules based on multiple conditions using transaction fields such as vendor, amount, department, location and category, which routes each transaction to the appropriate approver. A separate feature called Payment Reminders surfaces customers with open or overdue invoices in a single view and allows teams to send reminder emails individually or in bulk using a template. Both are available through an early adopter programme.
The release also introduces the Sage Intacct AI Gateway, which connects the platform to external AI solutions through REST APIs and the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that allows AI tools to access business systems securely. This lets organisations combine Sage Intacct data with external applications and AI services while keeping defined roles, permissions and workflow controls in place. The gateway is generally available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and South Africa. Alongside it, an updated analytics product called SaaS Intelligence 2.0 adds AI-powered insights for revenue forecasting, cohort analysis, customer segmentation and tracking of annual and monthly recurring revenue, available through an early adopter programme in the same five markets.
"High-performing finance teams are no longer just closing the books and reporting on what happened," said Jon Fasoli, SVP: Sage Intacct, Sage. "They are expected to improve cash flow, guide decisions and keep the business moving, all while maintaining strong control. These latest Sage Intacct updates help reduce manual effort across day-to-day finance operations by embedding automation and AI directly into the workflows teams rely on most, improving visibility and helping organizations respond faster while maintaining strong operational oversight and control."
"As organizations look to modernize finance operations, finance teams need better visibility across day-to-day workflows while also gaining faster access to meaningful insights," said Chris Price, Director of SaaS Vertical, Baker Tilly. "These latest Sage Intacct updates combine workflow automation with enhanced SaaS Intelligence analytics to help organizations operate with greater confidence, gain more actionable insights and improve strategic decision-making at scale."
