Three months after launching in March 2026, Clerify SA, a South African legal intake automation platform founded by Anga Ngcebetsha, is planning to expand nationwide over the next 12 months. The platform automates client onboarding for law firms, replacing document collection over unencrypted email with a secure portal that handles identity verification and regulatory compliance without requiring clients to download an application or create passwords.
The expansion targets a compliance gap that has grown as South African law firms face tighter obligations under FICA and POPIA, according to reporting by IT Web Africa. Law firms collecting sensitive client documents by email carry direct liability risk: if a firm's email is compromised, client documents and personal data move with it. Clerify SA's approach routes that traffic through an encrypted retrieval portal instead, with database-level controls that prevent unauthorized internal updates or deletions of audit trail records.
Ngcebetsha described the urgency behind the timing: "The next 12 months will mark a major growth phase as we scale nationwide. Unencrypted e-mail and manual document collection are rapidly becoming unsustainable liabilities for South African law firms." He added: "We replace risky e-mail attachments with an encrypted retrieval portal, directly protecting firm directors against business e-mail compromise losses."
The platform competes with international form tools such as Typeform and Jotform but focuses on legal-sector compliance requirements rather than general-purpose form collection. Clients complete onboarding on a mobile device, and verified documents land within the law firm's existing workflows without a separate integration step.
Jeremy Engelbrecht, Managing Director of SoftiDoc, a document management company that works with the legal sector, described the commercial pressure driving adoption: "Onboarding customers has long been a time-consuming and costly process, prone to delays, errors and risk. AI-enabled automation allows organisations to slash the time taken to onboard new customers, dramatically reduce costs and improve accuracy and efficiency."
Clerify SA was developed through early 2025 and launched commercially in March 2026. Its current installed base covers three commercial law practices operating across seven legal offices.
