Octiv, a South African gym management platform that provides scheduling, membership management, payments and access control tools for fitness facilities, has launched Octiv Explore, a consumer-facing feature designed to help users discover gyms in the boutique and independent fitness sector. The platform currently serves 1,400 gyms and more than 200,000 active users across more than 40 countries.
Octiv Explore places participating gyms on an interactive map where members can search for facilities, view their profiles, book classes and complete payment within the same flow. For gym owners, the feature is designed to function as a new customer acquisition channel without adding administrative work, while for consumers, it is intended to make finding a gym, whether near home or while traveling, faster.
Mark Fawzy, founder and CEO of Octiv, described the intent behind the launch: "Octiv Explore is built to bring gyms more traffic, more conversions and more opportunities, without adding more to their workload. Independent gyms are the heart of the global fitness landscape. With Octiv Explore, we're not just helping people find gyms, we're helping small businesses operate at an enterprise level, grow their communities and unlock their full potential."
Octiv's early funding included a seed round backed by South African angel investors, followed by a Series A round led by Knife Capital, a venture capital firm, in 2022.
