NjiaPay launches PSP-Agnostic One-Click Payments in South Africa

The payment orchestration startup, spun out of Talk360 in December 2024 and PCI DSS Level 1 certified, stores tokenized card credentials that work across multiple payment providers rather than locking merchants to a single PSP

NjiaPay launches PSP-Agnostic One-Click Payments in South Africa

NjiaPay, a South African payment orchestration company that raised $2.1 million in seed funding in March 2025, has launched one-click payments for South African merchants. The feature stores a customer's card credentials after their first authenticated transaction and surfaces the saved payment method on return visits, removing the need to re-enter card details or complete 3-D Secure verification again.

The technical architecture separates NjiaPay's approach from one-click solutions tied to individual payment service providers. NjiaPay sits as an orchestration layer on top of a merchant's existing PSP stack, routing transactions across multiple providers through a single API. When a customer completes a first successful authenticated payment, NjiaPay issues the merchant a payment-provider-agnostic token linked to a unique shopper identifier, such as an email address, rather than storing actual card data. That token works for future purchases regardless of which PSP processes the transaction, so merchants can continue switching or layering payment providers without losing the customer's saved credentials.

Jonatan Allback, CEO of NjiaPay, described how the tokenization and consent flow works in practice:

"The first time a customer shops with a merchant, we assign them a unique ID, based on shopper data such as an email address, and securely tokenise the payment details used at checkout. If they successfully authenticate the transaction and consent to the merchant storing those details for future purchases, their saved payment method surfaces when they return. Instead of entering their card details again, they confirm payment with a single click or tap, without needing to reauthenticate."

The token is scoped to the individual merchant's platform and cannot be reused elsewhere. Merchants receive the token but never access the underlying card data, which NjiaPay encrypts and stores under PCI DSS Level 1 compliance, the payment card industry's highest security certification tier. NjiaPay was spun out of Talk360, a South African international calling company, as a standalone entity in December 2024.
