Zoho launches POS Software in South Africa with local VAT support

Zoho, an India-headquartered software company that offers more than 50 business applications spanning CRM, finance, HR and operations, has launched Zoho POS in South Africa, adding a point-of-sale product to the range of solutions the company now supports locally. The launch was announced at Zoholics 2026, Zoho's annual customer conference, where the company also reported 34 percent growth in its South African customer base during 2025, according to htxt.co.za.

The software handles the compliance requirements South African retailers must meet at checkout. VAT configuration covers the standard rate, zero-rated supplies and tax-exempt items, with tax calculated at the point of sale and reflected across invoices, receipts and sales reports without manual intervention.

Inventory management runs across physical and online channels from a single system. Retailers can set reorder thresholds, receive low-stock alerts and raise purchase orders from within the platform, and the system synchronizes stock levels across a merchant's website and brick-and-mortar locations. Multi-location retailers can manage stores across provinces through one interface, with centralized inventory visibility and store-specific performance tracking available to head office.

On hardware, Zoho said the platform connects to barcode scanners, cash drawers, weighing machines and customer-facing displays from multiple manufacturers. The company confirmed at a media roundtable accompanying the conference that it is working with Yoco and Capitec Bank to integrate local point-of-sale hardware for customers who use those providers.

The platform includes AI functionality through Zoho's in-house Zia large language model. Retailers can use Zia agents to query inventory levels, trigger workflow automation and execute retail operations through natural-language prompts via Zoho MCP.

The Professional plan is priced at R240 per month on an annual subscription. A month-to-month option is also available at R240 per month.
