MTN Group, an enterprise operating the Skills Academy educational platform across 11 African markets, launched an artificial intelligence job board. The software update introduces recruitment capabilities and application tracking to an educational system that focused on technical instruction prior to this integration. The platform evaluates a candidate's existing capabilities against employer requirements to suggest available positions.
The deployment occurs as demographic shifts and technology adoption alter regional labor dynamics. The International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, estimates that more than 230 million jobs in sub-Saharan Africa will require digital skills by 2030. Africa has a demographic profile where more than 60 percent of the population is under the age of 25. The integration addresses the gap between available labor and specialized technical requirements.
Marina Madale, MTN Group Executive: Sustainability and Shared Value, indicated the system was designed to align educational outcomes with labor market demand.
“This year’s theme, ‘Different Contexts, Common Aspirations’, reflects a reality we see across our markets. Young people start from different circumstances, but they share the need for relevant skills and clearer routes to opportunity. Across Africa, many are investing in their futures through learning and self-development, while employers are seeking the capabilities needed in an increasingly digital economy,” Madale said. “Digital and financial inclusion becomes more economically meaningful when it helps people participate in the economy. Strengthening the path from skills to work requires action across business, government and education. For MTN, the Job Board gives further practical expression to our commitment to digital and economic inclusion by connecting learning, skills and opportunity.”
The platform algorithms process user location and career goals alongside certified achievements to filter vacancies from regional employers. When the system detects a discrepancy between a candidate profile and a job listing, it directs the user to free training modules available within the academy. Applicants use the portal to manage their submissions and track progression through the application, interview and offer stages.
The MTN Skills Academy launched in 2022 to provide instruction in technical disciplines including artificial intelligence and data analytics. The educational infrastructure includes accessibility features for users with specific cognitive or physical requirements. The platform has recorded almost 526,000 enrolments and issued authenticated certificates for 192,000 course completions. Students have finished 1,122 specializations across the active territories since the initial deployment.
