Paystack launches AI payment platform for digital agents

Paystack, a fintech company that provides payment infrastructure for businesses, has introduced Paystack Index, an early access platform designed to let AI agents complete consumer transactions on behalf of users.

The product was developed by Paystack with support from TSG Labs, a venture studio within The Stack Group that builds experimental products. It is the first public launch from TSG Labs since Paystack created The Stack Group in January 2026, bringing together Paystack, Zap, Paystack Microfinance Bank and TSG Labs under a single holding company.

Paystack Index extends the company's payment infrastructure to AI powered experiences. Instead of navigating websites or mobile applications, users can instruct supported AI assistants to complete purchases and financial transactions. The platform interprets user requests, connects them to participating merchants or service providers, processes payments through Paystack and Zap, and completes the checkout process within the AI interface.

“If you take a step back and compare the number of people that are using their browser for commerce and now introducing agents for discovery, you’ll see that agents are coming up and browsers are going down,” Paystack CEO Shola Akinlade says.

The service is available in Nigeria and currently supports AI clients including ChatGPT, Claude and OpenClaw. At launch, users can purchase airtime and mobile data, send money through Zap and order food from Chowdeck.

Paystack is positioning the product as an experiment in AI driven commerce rather than a platform for complex purchasing decisions. The initial use cases focus on routine transactions that consumers perform frequently, allowing the company to test how AI agents can execute payments using existing payment infrastructure.
